Here’s one of my most controversial opinions: it should not be illegal to deny the Holocaust. I believe the Holocaust did happen but to make certain thoughts or opinions illegal is an infringement on our first amendment right to freedom of speech. Ofc the side effect of freedom of speech is that people say BS. However, it’s not illegal to believe the earth is flat, it’s not illegal to believe vaccines cause autism, it’s not illegal to believe Bush did 9/11 (as far as I know), and it’s not illegal to deny the Nanjing Massacre, the Armenian Genocide, or an event that happened today 37 years ago. However, it is illegal to deny the Holocaust, and that just comes to show who’s really in charge of our thoughts. I’m fine with keeping Holocaust denial illegal as long as denying these other horrific events is also made illegal, or else it’s clear hypocrisy. “To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize”.
